Having spent years in development limbo as films were announced only to fade back into the ether, we are finally getting a screen adaptation of William Gibson’s legendary cyberpunk tome Neuromancer via a series in the works at Apple TV+. And the show’s creative team is plucking an Apple TV veteran to star, as Masters Of The Air’s Callum Turner is aboard in the starring role.
Gibson’s work, which was initially published in 1984, went on to receive a Hugo Award, a Nebula Award, and the Philip K. Dick Award. The novel concerns Henry Case (the part Turner is adopting), a washed-up hacker hired for one final assignment by a dubious ex-military officer, which brings him in contact with a formidable artificial intelligence.
Gibson developed two follow-ups, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive, which means there’s material for future seasons if needed, or a potential anthology series. Graham Roland and JD Dillard are in charge of the show, Roland serving as showrunner and Dillard will direct the pilot.
Turner, of course, played Major John “Bucky” Egan in Masters and has also been seen in the likes of the Fantastic Beasts movie and George Clooney’s The Boys In The Boat.
