Heartstopper has been quite the sensation on Netflix, and while it doesn’t rely on stunt casting, it has had some brilliant folks on board, like Olivia Colman sharing the screen alongside leads Joe Locke and Kit Connor. Season 3 is adding more big stars, with Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey joining the cast with Hayley Atwell and Eddie Marsan.
Created and written by Alice Oseman based on her graphic novels of the same name, recounts the tumultuous love affair between youths Charlie Spring (Locke) and Nick Nelson (Connor) who attend an all-boys grammar school.
Here’s the official summary for Season 3: “Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something vital to convey to Charlie. As the summer holiday fades and the months fly by, the friends begin to realize that the school year will approach with both its joys and its problems. As they learn more about each other and their relationships, arrange social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”
Atwell will play Diane, Nick’s aunt who accompanies him on a summer break to Minorca and has some stern advise to deliver regarding his relationship with Charlie. Marsan will play Geoff, Charlie’s knowledgeable and straight-talking therapist who first appeared in the comic novels. Bailey will make a surprise appearance as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist and celebrity crush of Charlie.
“I am tremendously happy to be welcome three new cast members to the Heartstopper family,” Oseman said in a statement. “It was an amazing thrill to see Hayley, Eddie and Jonathan’s skill with our existing ensemble, and I can’t wait for the Heartstopper fans to meet these new characters.”
Heartstopper returns for Season 3 in October.
